Blown Lead Turns into Walkoff

A walk-off single by Chris Clayton led Chipola Indians (38-7, 18-3) past Northwest Florida State 15-14 on Monday.

The game was tied at 14 with Chipola Indians batting in the bottom of the tenth when Chris Clayton singled off of John Barr, driving in one run.

Chipola Indians built a 13-run lead in the second inning and then held off Northwest Florida State's charge.

Northwest Florida State scored 14 runs in the failed comeback on a error in the fifth, a single by Jake Corso in the fifth, a double by Cole Halfacre in the fifth, a walk by Devin Brown in the fifth, a single by Joe Guidry in the fifth, a double by Daino Deas in the fifth, a single by Mike Salvatore in the fifth, a by Guidry in the seventh, and a grand slam by Ross Goforth in the seventh.

Chipola Indians knotted the game up at 14 in the bottom of the ninth inning. Chipola scored one run when Chris Clayton singled with two outs in the ninth inning driving in Bechtold who delivered a 2-out double down the left field line.

Northwest Florida State scored nine runs in the fifth inning. Northwest Florida State's big inning was driven by a error, a single by Corso, a double by Halfacre, a walk by Brown, a single by Guidry, a double by Deas, and a single by Salvatore.

Bowden Francis (10-2) earned the win for Chipola Indians. He threw one inning, giving up zero runs, two hits, striking out one, and walking zero.

Riley Cabral started the game for Chipola Indians. He tossed four and a third innings, giving up six runs (0 ER), four hits, and striking out two.

Home runs came when Reynaldo Rivera homered in the second inning and Jose Caballero homered in the first and second innings. 

Chipola had 17 hits in the game. Edmond AmericaanMax GuzmanCaballeroTrey DawsonAndrew Bechtold, and Clayton each collected multiple hits.

 Caballero led the way with seven runs batted in. He went 2-for-4 on the day.
