Chipola College Indians Varsity stole the lead late in the game in a 6-5 victory over Gulf Coast State on Saturday. Chipola College Indians Varsity was down 5-4 in the bottom of the eighth inning when Joshua Rivera singled on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs.
In the first inning, Gulf Coast State got their offense started. Kelley drove in one when he singled.
Gulf Coast State evened things up at three in the top of the sixth inning when an error scored one run for Gulf Coast State.
Jake Smith earned the victory on the hill for Chipola College Indians Varsity. He went two innings, allowing zero runs on zero hits, striking out one and walking one. Andrew Moore and Jacob Smith entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.
Lord led things off on the mound for Gulf Coast State. He went seven and a third innings, allowing six runs on ten hits, striking out four and walking one. Furey threw two-thirds of an inning in relief out of the bullpen.
Chipola College Indians Varsity racked up ten hits. Ivan Johnson, Rivera, Cameron Gray, and Alex Arauz all had multiple hits for Chipola College Indians Varsity. Arauz, Gray, Rivera, and Johnson each managed two hits to lead Chipola College Indians Varsity.
The Indians finish the Panhandle Conference play 18-6.
They'll be back in action at home next weekend as they host a classic with the following schedule:
- Friday, May 3:
- 6PM: Chipola vs. St. John's River
- Saturday, May 4:
- Noon: Chipola vs. LSU-Eunice
- 3PM: St. John's River vs. LSU-Eunice
- 6PM: Wallace-Dothan vs. St. John's River
- Sunday, May 5:
- 11AM: Chipola vs. LSU-Eunice
