Chipola Softball faced Pensacola State in a home matchup for the Lady Indians' Sophomore Day.
The Lady Indians would waste no time getting on the board and jumped out to a colossal 5 – 0 lead in just the bottom of the first. They would go on to score two runs a piece in the bottom of the third and fifth.
Morgan Goree and Krystal Goodman were astounding on the mound, only allowing one run to cross the plate. Goree would finish the game allowing one run in the three innings she pitched with a total of two strikeouts. Goodman came in and finished the game and remained composed in clutch moments, allowing only two hits with one strikeout.
The defense was very impressive with their fielding abilities and turning double plays keeping the Lady Pirates to a one-run score.
Ally Clegg, Brooke Farrow, Candela Figueroa, Jordenne Gaten, Alexis Grampp, Bobbie Morris, Barbara Woll and Amy Woodham all had quality at-bats that contributed to Chipola's offensive power. Candela Figueroa hit a two-run shot that secured the win for the Lady Indians.
Chipola won the game 9 – 1.
Jordenne Gaten, Krystal Goodman, Morgan Goree. Alexis Grampp, Bobbie Morris, Melany Sheldon and Barbara Woll were all honored for Sophomore Day as well. All of the sophomores will be heavily missed. Each of them has been hardworking and strive to be great on a daily basis.
Also, sophomore Deborah Fernando signed a scholarship to attend the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She has been wonderful in her years at Chipola and has contributed heavily.
The Lady Indians next face Gulf Coast State College in Panama City on Monday at 4:00 p.m. CST.
