Four Game Series on-deck for Chipola Baseball
The Indians will take on Florida SouthWestern College this weekend at home
The Indians will continue their twelve-game home stand with a four-game series this weekend against the Florida SouthWestern College Bucs. Games this weekend are set for 4 PM on Friday, doubleheader starting at noon on Saturday, and 11 AM on Sunday.
Chipola is currently ranked third in the NJCAA Division I rankings and ranked second in the Region 8 poll. The Bucs are ranked third in the Region 8 poll and receiving votes outside the Top 20 of the NJCAA rankings.
The Indians are coming off a weekend sweep of Wallace-Dothan and Coastal Alabama North. As a team, the Indians are batting .382 and have a 6-1 record this season. Chipola's offense is led by freshman catcher, David Castillo, who in four games is hitting .636 on the young season. Myles Austin, a transfer from the University of Alabama, is batting .524 with two home runs.
Indians' pitchers lead the NJCAA DI in ERA (minimum 40 innings pitched), sporting a 1.88 ERA after 7 games. The Chipola staff is 5th in the country in strikeouts with 71. Opponents are batting .153 against the Indians.
The Bucs enter the weekend with an 8-1 record including a 5-3 win in their last game on Wednesday against Indian River State College. The only loss for the Bucs was an 11-7 defeat to #18 College of Central Florida. Central Florida is ranked #1 in the Region 8 poll ahead of the Indians and Bucs. The Bucs are led at the plate by sophomore Warnner Rincones with a .480 batting average (minimum 25 at bats). Rincones has also stolen 13 bases for the Bucs.
On the mound, Florida SouthWestern pitchers have a 3.99 ERA and opponents are hitting .228. Bucs' pitchers lead NJCAA D1 with 107 strikeouts.
