Chipola Baseball splits conference doubleheader
The Indians battled in a double header Saturday at TCC, taking one of two games decided by one run.
On Saturday afternoon, #7 Chipola College (22-7) took on Tallahassee Community College (10-15) in a double header. The Indians won the first game, 2-1, and lost the second game, 4-3.
Game One:
In the top of the third inning, Matthew Garcia walked with one out and advanced to third following a Paxton Tomaini single. Cameron Gray singled to score Garcia and Tomaini scored on an error to give the Indians a 2-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Eagles lead-off batter reached on an error. The next batter singled to drive him in, cutting the Indians lead to 2-1. With one out and a runner on third base, Bo Bonds entered the game and struck out the next two hitters in the Eagles' lineup to end the threat.
Bo Bonds finished the game to record his team-high fourth save of the year. Bonds threw 2.2 innings, only allowing one hit and striking out four Eagles.
Luis Guerrero had a dominant start for the Indians, allowing one unearned run, three hits, and striking out 6 en route to his second win of the season.
Cameron Gray finished the game 2-for-4, bringing in one of two runs for the Indians.
Andre Tarver was 2-for-3 at the plate.
Game Two:
Paxton Tomaini led off the game with a walk and reached second on a stolen base with one out. Tomaini would score on a Cameron Gray single to give the Indians an early 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the first, the Eagles went up 2-1 on a home run by Spencer Hanson. They would add another run in the third.
The Indians would tie the score in the fourth. Andre Tarver singled to bring in Matthew Corlew and Dylan Goldstein scored on a double play turned by the Eagles.
Chipola would escape the seventh inning after Tallahassee loaded the bases, sending the game into extra innings.
After the Indians were unable to score in the eighth, the Eagles pushed a run across in the bottom half of the inning courtesy of a Chipola error.
Matthew Garcia and Andre Tarver led the Indians at plate, batting 2-for-4 in game two.
The Indians will travel to Pensacola State College on Tuesday for a 5 PM Panhandle conference matchup.
