Chipola Baseball splits double header with Pensacola State
The Indians defeated the Pirates 6-2 in game one before dropping game two, 15-5.
The Indians split a doubleheader on Saturday at Jeff Johnson Field, defeating Pensacola 6-2 in game one before dropping game two, 15-5. The Indians now sit at 24-9 and 5-3 in conference games. Chipola continues conference play hosting Gulf Coast State College on Tuesday and Thursday at 5 PM before traveling to Panama City for a Saturday doubleheader starting at 1 PM.
Game One:
The Indians bats came through late in the game to give Luis Guerrero the run support to help him toss the first complete game of the year for Chipola Baseball, as the Indians took the first game 6-2.
In the bottom of the fourth, consecutive singles from Paxton Tomaini and Cameron Gray led off the inning. After Tomaini stole third to put runners at the corners with no outs, Mark Black drove him in to give the Indians the first lead of the game, 1-0.
The Pirates would tie the game in the top of the fifth with a two out single.
The Indians answered that with a four-run bottom of the fifth inning. The Indians took advantage of walks and errors to take a 2-1 lead. Matthew Garcia singled to left field to drive in the second run of the inning. Then with one out, Mark Black's double in the gap scored Garcia to make it a 4-1 game.
After the Pirates added a run in the sixth, Chipola would get the run back on a two-out double from Jozsef Rohrbacher that scored Andre Tarver.
Luis Guerrero threw all seven innings to secure the win to up his record to 3-1. Guerreo allowed one earned run, walking one and striking out eleven batters.
Joszef Rohrbacher ended the game 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a double.
Cameron Gray was 2-for-3. Mark Black finished the game 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.
Game Two:
The Pirates scored in every inning en route to a 15-5 defeat of the Indians.
Matthew Garcia ended the game 3-for-4 with an RBI.
Alfonso Villalobos was 2-for-2 with an RBI.
David Castillo was 3-for-3 with a solo home run.
