Chipola Baseball splits double header on the road
In game one, the Indians lost 3-2 on a walk-off hit but came back to take game two convincingly, 4-0.
In a Saturday conference doubleheader, the #10 Chipola baseball team traveled to Gulf Coast State College. The Indians effort came up short in the first game, losing 3-2. The Indians bounced back to take game two, winning 4-0 and taking three of the four game series.
The Indians now sit at 24-10 and 8-4 in conference games. Chipola will play Tuesday at noon against Chattahoochee Valley Community College. The game will take place at Wallace Community College in Dothan, Alabama.
Game One:
The Commodores used a solo homerun in the second inning and pair of hits in the fourth to take a 2-0 lead entering the late innings.
Cameron Gray started off the top of the sixth inning with a single. A double from pinch-hitter Dylan Goldstein would score Gray, putting the Indians on the board. Andre Tarver followed up with a single to put runners on the corners. Alfonso Villalobos would bring in Goldstein to even up the game, 2-2.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Commodores led off with a double and then scored on a two out single to win the game 3-2.
Luis Guerrero started the game, throwing 5.1 innings while allowing two runs and striking out ten batters.
Dylan Goldstein was 1-for-1 with a pinch-hit RBI double.
Game Two:
The Indians jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Matthew Garcia got it started with a single followed by a Cameron Gray double. After Dylan Goldstein walked to load the bases, Garcia would score on a wild pitch. Alfonso Villalobos cleared the bases with a two run single, scoring Gray and Goldstein.
In the sixth inning, the Indians would add an insurance run with a pair of doubles from Cameron Gray and Dylan Goldstein, extending the lead to 4-0.
The four runs would be more than enough as three Chipola pitchers would hold the Commodores to only 4 hits and no runs.
Andrew Moore started the game and recorded his third win of the season, striking out six while not allowing a run.
Cameron Gray finished the game 3-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored.
Dylan Goldstein was 1-for-2 with a two RBI double.
David Castillo reached base safely every at-bat with two singles and two walks.
Team Notes:
- The Indians are sixth in the NJCAA with 344 hits.
- Alfonso Villalobos has eight RBIs in the last five games, with a team-high 25 on the season.
